vs AI Tournament Concept
Here is something I am just getting started doing with WinSPMBT but think the concept would work just as well using WinSPWW2.
Since I am lazy, I am just going to post the initial design overview here.

1) vs AI Tournament (Actually a Campaign) - I am currently playing a 10 Battle Campaign using a Soviet Motorized Rifle Battalion (BTR) based on the OOB from FM 100-2-3 (The Soviet Army Troops, Organization and Equipment © June 1991). I have selected the date of August 1986 and for opposing forces I chose West German, US and France. I am using the maps Marek designed for the SLII campaign and redrawing the VH for each battle to match mission objectives based on what I think would be a good fit for the story in my head. I will purchase my OOB (will post the exact TO&E in another thread if there is interest) to match the one in FM 100-2-3 and start the Campaign. Before deploying for each battle I will import the appropriate mapsheet, set up all the VH's based on the mission concept in my head, purchase Support Units and will then save the file. Since I am not picking the Enemy Forces I have no idea what the AI is going to pick. Each participant will be sent the file (with their "Orders") for the battle. They will load up the Save Game and play it out versus the AI. Once finished each player sends me their End Game file and I record the results (in points). Since its a Campaign, to get the setup for the next (and all consecutive battles) I will use MY Campaign Game files to create the #2 - #10 battles. I will pick another of Marek's maps in his set based on the ideas running around in my head (and the options given in the campaign generator), set up all the VH's again, purchase Support Units, save the file and so on. Basically everyone plays the battles of the campaign with my forces BUT with their own deployment so how you approach the mission is of your own plan and actions. The person with the highest total score at the end wins (me not included of course).

There are a few threads in the WinSPMBT section that go into more detail in case some of you do not normally venture over there.
Here are the mian ones that cover what we are doing;.
vs AI Tournament (Actually a Campaign)
vs AI Tournament - Official Rules
If this WinSPMBT version goes well, I am planning to do a WW2 theme next.

Re: vs AI Tournament Concept
I'll pass on the MBT one and jump in on this one when the chance comes up.
Just one questions: Will there be a time limit on how long we have to play each battle?

Since you will playing against the AI I will probably allow 30 days real time maximum, at least for larger battles. I played the 1st mission in about 4 days, for 30 turns.

Re: vs AI Tournament Concept
I'm starting to do some preliminary research into this now that the other one using WinSPMBT seems to be pretty well flesh out as far as format and rules are concerned.
That being said, if you have any scenario recommendations, please feel free to post them. Right now I have in mind maybe one of the following;
- Battles around Soltsy (German vs Russian): July - August 1941
- The Kerch-Eltigen Operation (Russian vs German, Romanian) November 1943
- Battles around closing of Falaise Pocket (US, UK, Canadian, Poles vs German): August 1944
- Fighting around the Ardennes (Bulge) (US vs German): July 1941
With any scenario that would be used I need to have access to fairly good background Information and OOB's. I am also looking at incorporating a team type concept in this version.

Re: vs AI Tournament Concept
Since the UK came in 2nd in voting in the "What nation do you prefer to go in battle with?" poll, what would make for a good theme/operation to use with the UK as the Core Force? I am not really well versed in UK operations during the war other than Market Garden, North Africa and Greece, so if anyone could provide some links to aid in my research, it would be much appreciated.

Hey DD, why not perform the unexpected?
Consider an East Africa Campaign.
Have a look at: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/East_Af..._(World_War_II)
and see if it seems interesting to you.

This link is the war diary for a British regiment (3rd County of London Yeomanry). Some pages missing, but a blow by blow history of WW2.
http://www.warlinks.com/armour/3_cly/3cly_44.html
Action on that page begins post D-Day.
Other pages (links at bottom) cover other years (Nov 1941 on being somewhat intense).
Some entries give exact tank strengths & types at that date.
3 CLY seem to have used all the Desert types - Crusader through Stuart, Grant and Sherman.

Well, not sure its a "popular" subject, so it may be that we 2 are the only ones that would play it. I will check it out though.
