Default exerience

How many different ways are there for a unit(s) to gain experience and is there a chance that there are subtle differences in experience itself. A silly question perhaps but I've noticed that some of my units seem to gain experience by just surviving a number of engagements. I'm curious as it's mostly in basic transport class like trucks where they have no weapon of any kind.

In the past I've seen where the number of units killed seems to count the most and if I want to get my units experienced more quickly they have to become angels of death by stalking the battlefield and gunning down weakened enemy units to the point where the survivors disband.

Thanks in advance

Steve

As a general rule I think gain
Just for taking part.
More if activly take part as in involved in combat call fire mission.
Even more if they kill something.

So the likes of trucks slowly gain experience if they survive but the guys doing the killing gain it faster.

It's mentioned in the GG that "shooting at enemy or being shot at by enemy" will also gain experience. From my experience, this works for relatively less experienced troops. When the troop is highly experienced, kill seems to be the most important factor.

My guess: the game records every unit's performance (shoot, being shot, causing casualty, kill, calling arty, etc.) in a battle. At the end of battle, it checks each unit's record and roll a dice. If the result is favorable, the unit gain experience from that part of record. If it is
a kill, the chance is higher. If the unit is not healthy (e.g., suffered heavy casualty in battle), the chance is lower. The result may also depends on current experience level of this unit. Just my guess.

I'm almost sure you are correct on this point.
Many times have had an elite or veteran unit make many kills and barley survive and not get any experience gain (and sometimes lower) the next battle.
Has to be attributed to green troops added.
But a whole lot better than starting with an all green unit.

I've certainly noticed a random element to gaining experience. As my computer has been known to overheat (don't ask how much this frustrates me) I've often had to load up the end of battle save. Right after you save it is when it tells you who is gaining what status and 75% of the time I have to reload it, there are more units that reach Vetern/elite status yhe second time. You explianation of how it works makes sense.

1) The tests for progression use random numbers, funnily enough...
2) As your experience grows, gaining experience gets harder and harder. Conversely the first few stages (if inexperienced) can be fast. Moral - protect your 80+ and especially 100+ experience veteran core troops.

Don't worry. I'm not going to lose to you because of my machine.

I might lose to superior tactics and luck though.
