Depends on the situation. My most often forged boots are winged shoes and boots of the messenger. But really, it depends on what you need them for.

For many nations, earth boots get you access to dwarf hammers.
Boots of quickness can be valuable on thugs/scs
Boots of youth can be good for old age mages.
After those and the previously mentioned - it really gets niche.
some nations can really benefit from strength agartha, gorgon and jomon? come to mind.

For defeating the guy wearing the 2nd best boots. 
If you're new to the game, your best bet is to join an MP game and get your *** kicked by a bunch of guys who are each wearing just the right boots for the job.
Alternatively, you can follow the ridiculously time-consuming During Action Report that I'm maintaining in the MP sub-board, but watching me get my *** kicked can only get you so far. See one, do one, teach one, that's my motto. |

There is no best (in any question). There is only pros and cons. If there was a best, there would only be one.
Suggested ways of getting a more specific answer:
Whats the best boots for.....
A) Rainbow pretender (much magic, searcher, make of equipment)
B) SC pretender (super combatant, meant as 1-man army)
C) Combat Mage
D) Commander
E) Seducer/Charmer
F) Assassin
G) Scout
H) for trading purposes
I) pissing people off because its unique and Ive got the only one

Gandalf you are the man!! ty for breaking it down so even a dunder head like me could understand . thats the kind of stuff i am talking about. alot of new guys like ne are trying to get a complete grasp of how the game works ( or not) and that answer cleared up alot for me. great post ty  |
