How long for a game?
How long does a multiplayer game take? I've been playing some games with the AI and I can finish those in a couple days.

Re: How long for a game?
However, if your like most of us....
You will be on a learning curve and your 'stay' in the first few games may be....somewhat less.
My first game I lasted 19 turns, the last game I played we called it a draw after 100 turns as there was no clear winner.
It really depends on the type of game, caliber of players, what your trying to accomplish, how well you know YOUR nation as well as the capabilities of your opponents, ect, ect.
Don't be scared off by 2 to 4 months as the turns go VERY fast at the start and as you get larger and have more to do we lengthen the turns somewhat. But promise you, you WILL look forward with some anticipation to EVERY turn, and you will probably be in 2 to 3 games anyway so the turns come frequently.
Look for a game for new players, you might try 'Traitors' that is forming now as they will have teams and a lot of new guys, They will also have an experienced captain to help and answer questions.
Welcome to the community, you will enjoy it.

Re: How long for a game?
Most games are played on maps of 100-200 provinces. 300-400 is considered large.
Most games are played with one era with about 10 players. All the nations in one era (around 20) would be considered a large game.
Most games are played requiring 1 turn a day or the game will host even if you dont have your turn turned in. (altho many games extend the timer to 2 days or 3 days as the game progresses)
Most games have a decided winner by 100 turns in.
On the other hand, people get together in one of the chats and have small 2-4 player games on small maps with each doing a turn as fast as they can. They can play 100 turns in one day with no problem.
And on the other end, you can have games with maps as large as 1500 provinces. You can have up to 90 players. Ive had games on my server played for more than a year.
The great thing is that Dom3 doesnt decide it. It has a ton of range and a ton of settings allowing for many variations. Enjoy.

Re: How long for a game?
I can't imagine playing 100 turns in a day. Even in SP, turns get long well before the 100 turn point. Way too much to do.
And a word of advice to new players: Don't get into too many games at once. At the start, turns only take a few minutes and it's easy to handle a large number of games. Soon enough they'll be taking an hour or more each and getting far more complex. Some people are fine with 2-3 games, as Grudge mentioned. I can really only handle 1 at a time.

Re: How long for a game?
Long time ago I played in 5 games at once, and it soon became a nightmare. Never join more than 3 now.

Re: How long for a game?
I try to rotate them abit. No matter how long a gap, when I swing back to wanting to get into some mp games I try to spread them out. Joining 5 at once means that 5 are likely to get time consuming all at the same time. If I can keep only one late game, one mid game, and one early game at the same time then Im happier. Those arent the same as early mid and late era's. They refer to the explore/expansion, research/buildup, and late game strategy phases. Besides which, since each of those play so differently even in the same game it helps to keep things exciting.
Another hint. At least for me I find it helpful to not play the same nation in too many games at the same time. Or even the same map. Younger minds might not have a problem with it but I find it more comfortable to have a clear idea of which game Im debating strategy on. Multiple games with too much similarity at the same time is slightly problematic.
