Andy and I are baffled why this is suddenly an issue more than a year after the V17 patch was released
If ANYONE has any ideas WHY this is suddenly an issue PLEASE post them here
What is frustrating is this file shows up in our games with no problem and to make matters worse this was NOT added to the V17 release........ it was a .BMP added to the WinSPWW2 version 9.0 - 15.0 patch Released April 2022 so it has been in the game, unchanged for over three years but suddenly we have two reports of it
ANY IDEAS?
EDIT----- This may be a clue

I have patched it to Ver 9b but when I go to do the last consolidated patch up to ver 17 I get an error that it can't create a file "...\Game Notes\Images\Slovene Home Guard 1941?945.$$A"
|
I have NO records of a Ver 9b

One of those mentions will be mine. I have rediscovered how good the two sp games are and have tried to patch up my original enhanced game cds. Even had to buy a cheap external driver. All good until I tried to patch up WW2 and the Slovene thing came up.
Does anybody have any ideas what I could do?
I’m wondering if I should just fork out for the download.
One thing though. It wasn’t a complaint - it was just a query to Shrapnel as per the site instructions.
Brilliant that the game can still be played. Credit to Camo Workshop.

Exactly which version are you patching from ?
If I understand correctly, you patched to 9b without an issue then tried to patch to V17 and saw the Slovene Home Guard message?
Have you tried patching from 9b to the V15 upgrade first and then patch from V15 to V16 then from V16 to V17 ?

Thank Andy for that.

Thanks Don. Have deleted and retried but no luck.
Have just purchased the download version which I understand is the full v 17. Still seems good value - especially when you see the volume of scenarios and the patch enhancements.
Its been a bonus still being able to use my original modern battles disk.

Re: 2024 Game Updates
Stuff - I just tried to install the new download of v17 and the same Slovene Home Guard error came up.
Really unsure what to do now as that is a fresh download.

Re: 2024 Game Updates
What's he supposed to do now? I thought that was the best thing about a download, the game wouldn't download if it couldn't run at 100% efficiency. What is the Slovene Home Guard anyway? And why do they need their their own file? Sounds like your aiding and abetting computer viruses.

Re: 2024 Game Updates
IDK what baffles me more.........that neither Andy nor I have seen this happen ( and hundreds of others who have DL'd and run this patch and have not seen this happen.....) or that you and one other person I have heard have had this exact same issue
JUST OUT OF CURIOSITY
Go to the game folder then open GAME NOTES then open the IMAGES folder that is inside GAME NOTES
When you have Images folder open seach with the following:
Slovene Home Guard
Do you see this if you are set up to see it as "large Icons" ??

Thanks for your help with this. No I didn't see the Slovene Home Guard file in the folder. Tim also sent me the home guard file but that didn't help. Plus the advised service desk advice to "...then run the windows disk check utility..." wasn't much help at all.
l haven't been able to re-look at the issue until this weekend. Where I have been having problems is the install with my lap top. This morning I tried a download into the desktop machine and it worked with no problem at all.
I wonder if it has something to do with the laptop with not saving the initial install under the C:/shrapnel file path. I think I may have done a different path for a start. It also hasn't given me the option of a full uninstall - but then I don't understand what on earth is going on with win 11 / 365 now days!

Re: 2024 Game Updates
Well..... what you need to do is search winSPWW2.exe to find the installation with the different path.
The GOOD NEWS is everything sounds like its "A-OK" on your desktop
