Help needed badly: Trouble with in-game communication

It comes up occasionally that there is a bug in the diplomacy function. It's hard to know what causes it, and its not known if its fixed. The workaround is to do something other than diplomacy at the start of the turn.

Open a construction window, check a planet, move a ship, then respond to a treaty request or do other diplomacy. Otherwise the message does appear to your opponent. Like I said, its a bizarre bug.

But your specific problem, that you send a message, and you don't get the "Message sent" flag in the races window, is a new one to me. You're not accidentally pressing the [CANCEL] button are you? I've done that a lot myself.
