Gaap the Ice Devil (Berzerker bug??)

I was playing aroung with ice devils today and gave gaap a sword and shield. This Ice devil comes equipped with his very own hell sword. Even though I re-equipped him, he still went berzerk. Then at the end of the battle (after wiping out the AI army) he lost his berzerker rage, then....died. I got the province and lost my devil.

WHAT's GOING ON HERE!
