Default New Scenario - Vilshofen, Bavaria after WW2

This is a scenario just for fun. For those of us WW2 junkies that need a WW2 fix until WinSPWW2 comes out. It's got a bit of everything...PzIV's, Panthers, gliders, river crossing, Cossacks, SS units, etc., etc. It's a large scenario, but manageable.

This is the first scenario I've uploaded, so be gentle

From the game description...

I've taken some (ok, many) liberties with historical facts. It's loosely based on Gen. Patton's desire to mix it up with the Soviets after WW2. Around this time period, Patton is the military governor of Bavaria and his admiration of the fighting prowess of the former SS prisoners in his care gets him in trouble (again). He feels that the enemy now should be the Soviets, and he'd be glad to provide instigation for such a conflict.

Since the game does not allow for dates before 1946, I've set this battle for October 1946, but it would have occured around October 1945. Patton died from a car accident in December 1945.

As play begins, Patton has gotten his wish and the Soviets have swept through week Western Allies positions in Austria into southern Bavaria. Still struggling to put together forces strong enough to stem the Soviet advance, what Patton needs most is time. The Bavarian town of Vilshofen stands directly in front of the Soviets thrust northward along the Danube River. Vilshofen makes an ideal defensive position, with the Danube River on one side and the Vils River on another side.

The only US troops in the area are Engineering units and Military Police. Desperate to scrape together a defense, Patton releases former SS troops held as prisoners since the end of the war, arms them and assigns them defensive positions along the Vils. Added to this mix are Cossack units who fought against the Soviets and are awaiting "repatriation". For both the SS and Cossacks, being in Soviet custody means certain death.

Patton also has a few captured German PzIV and Panther tanks, crewed by both Germans and Americans, to stand against the heavy Soviet armor.

US Gameplay Notes:

Take your Cossacks on a sweep to the enemy's rear and destroy his heavy artillery (hint - wait a turn or two, until the AI assigns bombardment orders, or else the big guns will be trained on you).

Your Panzers are out-manned and out-gunned. Don't try to slug it out.

Your mission is to hold until the Cavalry arrives (armored cavalry, in this case). A US Mechanized Company and platoon of Pershings are on the way.

There are 4 areas which must be retaken - 2 in downtown Vilshofen, the convent, and the RR station. Other objectives have many less victory points. Once the reinforcements arrive, these must be taken quickly before the game ends. You'll need to split your forces.

A draw is a good outcome for this scenario, a marginal victory is great, and a decisive victory is very difficult.
