Regeneration doesn't heal afflictions, it just makes it less likely for you to get new ones.

The property which heals afflictions is called "Recuperation". Some monsters have this, including almost all of Pangaea's units and Man's Knights of Avalon. Units which are Immortal also effectively have Recuperation, since they gradually lose afflictions. However there is no way to give your pretender either of these traits. The only way to remove afflictions from your pretender is with a healer (Faerie Court) or the Chalice.

By the way if your pretender is undead even the Faerie Queen can't help. In that case the Chalice is the only option. That's why it's such a valuable and sought-after item! You will need Construction 8 to build it so it's difficult.
