Re: What Race Do You Play The Most?

You do realize that a low-tech scout can cover nearly the entire galaxy with efficient engines, right?

Not in this game. Well, not without a warp point opener anyway=-) I started with just 2 systems and 4 colonisable planets available to me (three of them moons). I researched stellar manip, started destroying/ rebuilding planets to get more real estate and then I built a warp opener. This must be around turn 50 by now=-)
I opened a WP into the next group of connected systems and found it uninhabited. Plenty of stuff to colonise mind you, but then I went bankrupt. My stellar manip fleet had used up all my radioactives, so I had to mothball almost everything and spend 50 turns or so getting my economy back under control. It took me another 50 turns to save up the 100,000 rads needed to unmothball my stellar manip ships.
I eventually did and now i can now run the two stellar manip ships and a few colonisers and a small population mover fleet. I've expanded into and explored half a dozen sytstem Groups and still haven't found any other players.
I have a dozen or so low-population worlds with major cities and metropoliseseses but a very tight economy and really sucky weapons tech. I'm hoping that when I do finally meet up with other species they will have weapons tech and economies way in advance of mine and will be able to give me a good run for my money=-)
I realise that there are loads of ways I could have plyed more efficiently but I'm taking it slow and enjoying myself. I'm half tempted to post a savegame of my first first contact as a scenario...
