Cool idea! Somehow that idea of passing on the torch seems to fit with the hive mentality really well.
On a barely-relevant side note; I went to the Natural History Museum in London the other day, and they have a colony of leafcutter ants in a big glass tank: You can watch them leave the nest, cross a bridge, snip of bits of leaf and carry them back. It was facinating.  |
