This is just the average speed though - there ought to be accelleration and decelleration factored into that (even though SE4 ships can change direction completely mid-journey without any apparent need to slow down).

If you take the ships a undergoing constant acceleration, you'd have the peak speed being twice the average speed.

However, problems start as soon as you include acceleration, since SE4 movement does not model acceleration at all.
