Yeah, the Big Ram that was built in the foundries of Barad-Dum was manned by Mountain Trolls, but that happened after the Dawnless Day, when Sauron make his Darkness fall on Gondor.
Now in the movie I don't remember if it was dark over the Black Gate, but it was definitively during the day, so maybe Peter Jackson actualy made a mistake...

I'll have to check in the book if only the Cave Trolls are suppose to die under sunlight.

By the way, How many kinds of Troll are there?
I remember the Cave Trolls, Mountain Trolls, but I'm not sure about Wood Trolls.
There can't be a Troll for every geographic feature, right?
