Hello there..

There is a couple of Faq's and Strategy guides...

Look here for those..

http://www.shrapnelgames.com/cgi-bin...;f=23;t=005518

http://www.shrapnelgames.com/cgi-bin...;f=23;t=005767
( look for the Dubious Strategy Guide and SEIV Strategy & Taticts )

I would recommend that you stick with Peaceful races as you will not have to deal so much with rioting.

And that when you start your games you build some Mineral , Organic , Rad Storage on your newly colonized planets so you can store that extra production at the beginning of the game.
Then when your starting to build more and more ships make sure you can afford to keep them by balancing your production. And colonize every planet you can. 1 mineral planet on a planet at 103 % is still going to give you 700 + minerals a turn. As you only need one space port per system. This will really help your empire. Also at the beginning of the game it is more important to build colony ships and get them out there.

For ministers... I turn them off.

For Screen prints... No the print scrn copy and paste is the only way to go.

Good luck...

And post away... Your answers will be given

That makes a lot of questions for a single thread...

I know at least one answer : AI is set to optimize its own star system, by colonizing every available planet, even if it's small. A little colony with just one facilitie is better than nothing. In small quadrants with lots of players, this strategy works fine.

If you chose to make no treaty with AI races, you will get no bonus resources, and your ships (especilly transports and colony ships) will be crushed by ennemy ships if they encounter any. And all AI will be more willing to declare war to you.

About resources shortages, my advise will be to not spend more resources than you have .
Also use mothball and scrap old useless ships to save maintenance resources.

About resource wealth.
Don't worry about it.
100 K in the wastebin isn''t that bad if you have 800K in reserve.
What you need to do is build more war ships, then the maintnance will rise and you won't get that much surplus resources!

Well i'm kind of a newbie but i have a few tips i do, i doubt these work very well in low tech games but i'm in a 3 planet start, high resources, high tech game against High difficulty ai with high bonuses, this is standard vanilla seiv gold. In the first few turns i colonise the best planets, in between any value from 70%+ Just say it has 120% in radioactives i'd build 2 radioactives resources and then a radioactives collider and then fill the planet up on radioactives extractions. Then once i have a stable resource base colonise any planet and build atmosphere modification plants and any planets that have less than 70% i build intelligence planets on them, filling them up with intelligence centres then half way through the build queue i add the two intelligence modifier facilities (can't rememeber their names) and then fill the rest of the planet up with intelligence, on the atmosphere modification worlds i add a 5 resource storage facilities then add more facilities once it's converted and i have a use for it

I'm up to turn 96 in a high tech high bonus game and i have 50 planets, over 15 systems, i havn't colonised that many systems totally because my ally has taken the rest of them up But after you got enough defense ships and resources i suggest you colonise the rest of your systems. My profits per turn are +270497 minerals, +232207 organics and +386729 radioactives and i have 51 ships, 3/4's of which are dreadnoughts and baseships.

This is my style of play and i'm a newbie and havn't read any tips or stratergy guides, this is just my way of playing i guess so i don't know if it's effective

Keep playing and i hope things work out for you, hopefully these tips will help you out in high tech games, and i suggest doing this in low tech games except perhaps adding research facilities to most planets along with resource extraction facilities, and then when you have the atmospheric modification facility run wile with that, but i doubt it will be used that much in low tech, i havn't played many low tech games and i have came around low high to mid table and then got wiped out in them

Keep playing and you'll find out a way round it, then you will develop your own way of playing it, your own stratergies and other methods, it's all about practice i guess

that is exactly what i hate of aliances... they think a trade aliance means "please take everything u can in my systems!!"
So non-intercurse is fine for me.. i think i make enogh money by myself anyways...

what tech lvl is the best to play? i play in low starting tech, and mid cost... anyways that seems to be very high anyways... 500.000 RP to get a new type of colony for example... what is the commonly used setting for this?

Usually low tech start wtih medium cost is what most people play. Usually. Most PBW games do anyways. I don't play much SP anymore as I find the AI too easy to beat. So I just get whooped by humans.
The great thing about this game is there are no 'right' ways of playing. If you play a style right you can win. That's why there are no true stratagy guides out there; because each game is different.
