I'm kinda curious about this advice. When I play, I typically set my Military to 100% for the first several turns so that I can crank out Colony Ships as quickly as possible. Also, I would strongly recommend that you purchase your first two colony ships so that you will have THREE new colony ships built in 6-9 turns instead of just one.
|
Right, i forgot to mention this.
I put my Research to 100% because i buy my Colony ships. So i don't need the production.
However on larger maps where you'll need more then 2 or 3 colony ships, setting Military production higher is a good thing.

I don't really see a pressing need to get Universal Translator until you have colonized every planet in sight.

If you do have a tech rush like i have, and are maybe forced to lease ships, then you can use the Universal Translator to sell your tech to other civs and have them pay for your colony ships.

Re: OT: Galatcic Civilizations (GalCiv)
I read that setting Military or Research, or Social to 100% is wasteful. There is a limit to how much you planet can spend, (about 60%???) after which any more is wasted.

Re: OT: Galatcic Civilizations (GalCiv)
Raynor,
Don't you think you're being a tad misleading.
Yes, 1.02.42 added a stack overflow problem with the trade screen that happens on *some* systems (I have yet to be able to reproduce it but we do have the crash logs).
But you don't seem to be acknowledging that this problem came because we added the dynamic AI yay/nay status to that dialog Last week based on user requests. Your Posts seem to imply that out of the box that the game is some sort of beta.
No one has to use 1.02.42. They could stick with 1.0 (the retail Version) or 1.01 (the bonus pak) where this probem doesn't occur.
And we should have it fixed by tomorrow afternoon (1.02.43).
Any user who downloads the weekly updates is more likely to run into some unforeseen problem than the user who waits for the stand alone patches that are released much less frequently but are more mature.

I specifically said that you recently added the trading feature. That was in the same post where I said you are trying to provide daily updates to the game.

I installed the latest Version in order to resolve two other issues. The first was the Draginol event in which an UBER race takes over one of your systems and starts producing more than THREE times all other races in the galaxy combined. This event can occur in an absolutely lowest level beginner game. The second was the bug whereby you are still bound by the policy of the UP after sacrificing all your trading and leaving it.
Because I installed the latest Version to resolve these two problems, I don't think it is fair to tell me that I could have just stuck with the base Version of the game. If you want to make that kind of argument, then the best way is to release the trading feature as a downloadable module that can be installed separately from Versions that include bug fixes. (Sure, I know this is impossible.)

Right below the sentence where I mentioned beta-testing, I said this:
"Of course, I'm only saying that because the game has crashed 30 times in the Last hour."
In that same post, I explained the exact conditions that produce the crash. In a later post, I explained that you don't need to use that feature at lower levels of difficulty. I also said that it was my opinion that you needed to use that feature at higher levels of difficulty.

Re: OT: Galatcic Civilizations (GalCiv)
Ah, Raynor,
don't take it personal. I think no one likes to hear people criticizing ones work and so you got Brad a bit upset. I can see how frustrating it is when the game crashes ever so often but they are really dedicated to fix all the problems ASAP. Just wait a day or two.
