AI attacks meaningless?
Love the game, ONE complaint/question though.
I am currently fighting a war between 2 other computer controlled races. I notice that anytime I'm attacked, be it one of my fighters, or the planet on the edge of my empire (appropriately named "Edge") the AI uses one ship to attack me. Every turn or every other turn I get attacked, and it is always with one ship. These ships (while their construction level is higher than mine) fall to my small weapons platform after firing one or two shots at the planet. In this case, if the AI used TWO ships instead of one, "Edge" could be defeated. Now here's my question. Does the AI always only attack with one ship? This is my first attempt at the game and so far, the battles are zero challenge.

I do not know what SE Version do you use (demo, pre-Gold, Gold), but I can testify that latest custom made AIs (my included ) routinely send fleets of 20+ ships for any "edge"

Re: AI attacks meaningless?
Hmmm. Latest patch should have reasonable AI_fleet files but apparently not . It will not help your current game, but try to load TDM pack and start a new game with medium/high AI bonuses. With some luck you will get Rage in the next system...

As Oleg wrote, you should play using the TDM mod, at least low bonus, and select some of the most challenging races.
In the current AI Death Match that I'm running, you could find some fleets with more than 200 ships (most of them DN!).

Re: AI attacks meaningless?
ah ok
well i just saw a fleet of 2 ships coming for me , but also noticed another race working with them that had 3 ships in a line!
np I'll be starting a new game haha, BUT, i noticed something. While going all out to drop planetary weapons on the good guys, I ran across some satellites, and my fighters could not fire missiles upon them? Had to put it on auto and let the computer do x amount of turns to end the combat.

Re: AI attacks meaningless?
Yes. If you check the info for the missiles you will see that they can only target planets and ships. Thus if you run into fighters or satellites with them they will be unable to attack them. Always make sure to see what your weapons can hit and what they can't. Once lost a fleet of super powerful dreadnoughts with wave cannons to fighters due to not enough PD cannons (well 600 fighters on 11 dreadnoughts with 2 PD each). So once again. Always remember to check what targets your weapons can hit.

Re: AI attacks meaningless?
anonsoc, lst, what turn are you on?, 2nd, what size map? 3rd how many ai opponents? Are you playing stock or one of the Mods?
Sometimes it depends on how you set your game up. Set to high aggressive, low or medium bonus (until you get used to the system before trying high bonus ) The Ai does like to aggravate you by sending in 1's and 2's for awhile, then it will start upping the size fleets it sends, also they may also be at war with other races and thats who they send their ships against. Don't fret the longer you play the larger fleets you'll see.
I have had combats with the total number of ships, fighters and drones in excess of 1000 units, 600 - 700 just in ftrs, I also have played a game where I had 15 Battlestations and Starbases, with killer sats and mines on 1 wormhole, the AI (Toran) kept sending in fleets of 90+ ships until they finally broke thru then I lost 4 complete systems. They also would send in 1's and 2's of minewsweepers before the fleets, so don't get discouraged,
believe me, like the say, sometimes you don't know when your well off
Wait until you get the Rage or Orks for neighbors, they are very hospitable type races
just some ideas mac

Re: AI attacks meaningless?
Actually, what he see may be just AI scouting, not attacking ! When I test AI and play with all ministeres "on" I often observe that AI can get an idea it wants to know what is behind some particular wormhole in my Empire and keep sending ships there one by one. Then it apparently switches from "exploration" to "attack" state and deploy its main fleet
