LOL @ tbontob.

So, what we have here is a mod in the making: Cloaking dual-purpose sweeper/layer module for us slower-to-figure-it-out people .

The history.txt file says under v1.66:

3. Fixed - Cloaked minesweepers will decloak their entire group if they encounter a minefield (regardless of their minister settings).

I *think* this applies to a known minefield. i.e. one that is tagged with a minefield marker. Can anyone confirm if a minesweeper will decloak to sweep a known minefield? or is this broken?

Been there too.

Really?

I am in exaulted company!

High praise indeed, but undeserved. I have made all the dumb mistakes you read about here in the forum and maybe even invented a few new ones.

It is a good way to learn, though.

How about decloaked mines? For us dummies, of course.

Slick.

Ahem...Slick.

You get double points if you belong to both clubs.

I will add just a few more. I am probably in the running for points leader...

the empty colonizer (hey, who hasn't)

the introduction to the Allegiance Subverter. "Hey, he took my ship!!!!" In my first or second game, I didn't really know what psychic racial traits could do.

the engineless ship

the wrong colonizer type sent

the overproduction causing ship abandonment

the Resource Converter planet left on "repeat orders" to convert organics to minerals causing a huge drain on organics. Did not determine cause until I had overcompensated by building mucho farms.

the mothballed fleet using a spaceyard ship. mothballed the spaceyard ship too. Unable to mothball without sending another spaceyard ship over there. Didn't make it there before the fleet got waxxed by a single ship.

the building of a research computer complex on an intelligence planet.

the wild goose chase by attacking the first ship in the enemy fleet. he ran with that ship and took my chasing fleet with it while the rest of his fleet raped and plundered.

the emergency supply pod on a ship with no supply storage.

the engine retrofit at a spaceyard with no resupply depot = no supplies. As the Chinese say..."Supplies!" (get it?)

the unguarded warp opener (which took forever to build) getting waxxed by an incoming enemy fleet after opening its first warp point.

oh, the memories...

Slick.

Yeah, and this one always gets me with Rads. I'm tooling along running with full mineral storage and running an excess and all my yards are pumping out ships at full capacity. I'm thinking, you are doing good Geo, no worries. Then "Construction could not be completed..." Waaa? I don't understand. Oh crud, I have no rads in storage and am running a 15K deficit this month. ARRGGHHH!

tbontob consoles a sobbing Slick.

"I have done those too!" he says.

"All of them?" askes Slick.

"Well no, not all of them."

Slick breaks out in a fresh outbreak of sobbing.

"But give me time. Give me time!" exclaims tbontob.

Slick I admire your openness and your ability to remember your mistakes.

About half of the ones you listed, I haven't made...yet.

If you had asked me to remember the mistakes I did make, I wouldn't have been able to remember half of the ones you listed.

...I am NOT going to admit to how many of THOSE I've done...

But you did miss my favorite memory... the old stealth armor added to the satellite stack trick.

What? Some newbies don't know this one?

1)Take an aggressive AI. (In my case the Rage)
2)Defend the system WP with satellites.
3)research armor and get new stealth armor.
4)decide to add stealth armor to the satellites for the bonus

5)watch in HORROR as 50+ ship Rage fleet sails into system through now cloaked Satellite stack

Lost my second best system in that game!
