this thread got me thinking of some old games i used to love...

one game in perticular i used to play for hours on end has escaped my memory, i cannot for the life of me remember what it was called... i think it started with an 'F'... Farscape, Farlight, Freesomthing... i dunno...

it was a Sidescrolling shooter/adventure... takes place far into the future, i think the character escapes from jail at the beginning of the game...(Fugitive?) Very dark game, well for its time, enemies include aliens, living planets, and sercurity bots... had an energy pistol for a weapon... anyone know what im talking about?

PS: game was out around/b4 Doom1... 486/386 days...

Tunnels & Trolls on my TI-99/4a.
I think I still own this game. I transferred it to 3.5" from the original 5.25" about 10 years ago. I haven't tried playing it in about two years, but it worked fine on my old 486. The copy protection still requires that you own the manual though.

The games I mostly feel nostalgic about were the first games of a type I played. I can remember playing Red Alert for almost an entire weekend, or staying up till well past midnight playing Romance of the Three Kingdoms on Genesis.

I still have those games, but I don't play them anymore because I've played other games in the same genres and gotten jaded. The novelty is gone, and the flaws are that much more apparent. But I still remember sending my team of 10 generals with intelligence 90+ into a province to turn it into the model of farming efficiency, and agonizing over whether to capture Lu Bu and try to keep him loyal (mostly through saving and reloading) or just execute him.

Why this instead of Enemy Unknown? Terror from the Deep was just a rehash of the original.
Not sure...maybe cuz someone gave it to me for free...or maybe because it was so much fun watching those fat, mostly naked islanders spin around in a circle and burst into meat. Just one of those games with charm...if not originality...or high techness. :-) Not to mention that the music was really catchy...der de der de der de der de der DE DERR!!! der de...

Muahaha!
