Hello all. Me not being a computer wiz I have run into a pickle. I have two computers networked with a D-Link DI-704P Router. I had made some settings changes in order to play a TCP/IP SEIV game. In then end we were unable to make it happen. So reversed the changes I did to the Router. The next time I booted up was unable to get on line. Reinstalled the Router and all was fine, almost that is. The second computer can send and receive email and singe onto MSN, but can't get to a web page when Explorer is clicked. Blank page pops up after Explorer is clicked, at the bottom is "detecting proxy settings" and I just sit and wait. The Router appears to have all the correct light indicators and have installed it twice with same results. To me this sounds like Explorer problem, not the Router. Not being computer literate I'm not sure. Would appreciate any help or advice, many thanks.
Simplest things first:
Power off everything (unplug router and modem) leave for 5 minutes.
Power up in order from the wall;
1) modem (Wait for the blinkey lights to show Online, ready or whatever arcane symbol means its connected.
2) router (Again wait for the blinkeys to settle down to connected state)
3) turn on computers.
Further questions:
What kind of internet connection do you have?
What kind of "re-installing" were you referring to before?
That was quick. My internet connection is Sympatico DSL. Maybe installing is not the proper wording. Went to the web page the manual gave me and fallowed the set up Wizard. I will gave your power down idea a try. The one thing I did not do before was turnning power to modem off. Thanks.
Hello S. J. I took a look at the Internet Options in both computers. Noticed the one that was working had the Automatic Detect Settings unabled. The other computers were active, so I unabled it's Auto D. S. and both are working now. Thanks for your speedy response Suicide Junkie
If it was just the autodetect settings thing, then if you had waited long enough, IE probably would have decided that no, you don't actually have a proxy server and it can just simply go Online now. Don'tcha just love computers?
