newbie mount question

How do i obtain and use upgraded weapon mounts? What needs to be researched or built to get them?

In stock, you don't need any research to get mounts.

Any ship over 399kt in size can be fitted with Large mounts, 799kt for Heavy, and Baseships only for Massive.

During ship design look at the top right for the button labelled "mounts".
