This type of bracketing can have byes as well. And I could throw in "Play in games" if I want to make an odd number of players. I prefer the even number though regardless of bracket type. Well, I don't watch sports, so I'm not aware of all the ins and outs of bracket stuff, it just seems like I always hear in the news about 64, then 32, then the final 16, etc. If there is a way, then that's fine.

As to a person getting a bye? It's better to be in the tourney and get a bye than to not be in it at all.
