I did the whole skip into the future with the first game I played because I wanted to see the techs....the weapon used was a telekentic burst thing I beleive and the only way for ME to outrange it is to develope WMGs which I will do I suppose as soon as I can figure out my immediate security problems.

However, if you are afraid of Computer Viruses, you may put one Bridge/Life Support/Crew Quarter plus the Computer so that you will not lose all movement when the Computer goes down."

That's what I usually do when I put comps on my BBs and bigger ships because I am not willing to risk my whole ship on maybe one lucky shot taking down the comp or some schmo with a virus disabling my fleet . But right now 10kt isn't worth the time and expense of refitting my fleet (especially because thus far anytime I try to retrofit my 2nd fleet which is bordering Cue space I've been attacked and had to rely on Last minute completion of a few of the upgrades on usually half of the actual fleet to defend myself). Problem is I lost 1 ship with 1 left in spacedock for repairs and only 4 combat ready ships on line so I can't risk pausing until the other 4 BCs come on-line after their retrofit and repairs.

Does anyone know exactly what the effect is of losing all the control spaces on a ship? Fer instance, if I have a ship with an MC, and it gets bLasted, what effect does that have on the ship?

Well if the bridge or master control is disabled by whatever means then the ship simply stops functioning properly, in battle i beleive you don't get to fire anymore and in movemeny phases I beleive it loses all but 1 movement point as I suppose it is assumed it's being towed back to base.

However if they have a virus they could possibly shut down your whole navy if it consists of ships that only have MCs so I wouldn't risk that if I were you.....hehe anyone see Sci-Fi's Battlestar Galactica LOL.

The effect is the same either way- no control, 1 movement point. You can still fire fine.

Losing C&C does not prevent you from firing.
-> 1/2 speed for no bridge
-> 1/4 speed for no LS
-> 1/2 speed for no CQ.
The modifiers multiply.
So losing all drops you to 1/16th speed.

I don't know why you are so resistant to the idea of adding MCs.
They will make you immune to conVersion and save space. How often do you ever actually lose your C&C without the entire ship being destroyed in the process?

Hehe two times in the game I'm playing now... The C&C of one of the frigates in the decimated 4th fleet and a Cruiser during the early part of the war against the Toltayans...

I'll ad MCs to my ships when I get the chance most likely because I am sure I need them but right now it's impossible as my defenses are just barely hanging on as is and I can't afford to retrofit my ships....heh a few of my defense ships are almost three years old with no upgrades as is. And my new Segmentus Icara fleet (replaced the one which was destroyed by the Cue suprise attack) still consists only of 6 very outdated frigates that could provide nearly zero defense against a dedicated assault....

Resource problems have reduced my mineral stockpile to a little over 3000 with still negative 1k every turn which means I can't afford to do anything ATM except hope for my new miner facilities to come on-line before it's too late.
