I thought the show was a hysterically funny social satire, but you really needed to be at least working for a living to appreciate it. You also need to understand the world at the time it was aired. Now, people are afraid of each other, fearful of expressing dissenting honest opinions. The pointed commentary of "All in the Family" would be too scary.

I wasn't working at the time, and I was in my pre-adoloscent years when the show started. I didn't have a real understanding of the world at the time. And if my wife turns it to TV Land or Nick at Nite when it's on, I'll ask her to turn it or I leave the room. I just don't want to watch it.
