Hyperion series by Dan Simmons
Dune series by Herbert
Foundation series by Asimov
Ender's Game series by Orson Scott Card
Hitchhiker's series by Adams
Tons more, but those are the ones that stand out.

I wasn't even aware that 1634 was out. I know Ring of Fire is out, which is a collection of short stories. Haven't seen 1634 on the bookshelves yet. When did it come out? BTW, I agree with you; that is another good series to read.
