General Question
Ok, this is probally a question that has been answered many times but is still confusing to me. Racial stats, (ie, strength, intelligence, mining etc.) its obvious how some affect gameplay (115% defence means -15 attack from opponents). But what exactly is the effect of low or high Tolerance and Intelligence stats?? Will a low Intelligence stat make me less able to fend off intelligence attacks as well as reduced intelligence points?? And what does tolerance do?? Any help would be gratful. Thanks.

Re: General Question
Most of us are fairly confused about the "Tolerance" stat (I assume you mean Environmental Resistance).
As for "Intelligence", that affects Research point generation. "Cunning" affects Intelligence point generation. Neither one directly affects your ability to defend against Intel attacks. Of course, fewer Intelligence points means less ability to defend against Intel attacks, just because you have fewer points to spend each turn. But that can be fixed by building more Intel centers...

Re: General Question
I believe that Environment Resistance determines how badly your growth is affected by poor contitions.
Ie. The perfect Environment Resist. race would have the same growth rate on Deadly and Optimal planets.
The worst Env.Resist. race ever would lose 10% growth rate for every 1% below Optimal.

Re: General Question
Thanks, and yes I meant Envir Resist. Just got too many old RPG terms still rattling around in my brain . I assume it means that when you have a high resist it means an 'Unpleasant' planet will be treated as 'pleasant' or 'optimal' by your race. But would just like clarification. thnx.

Re: General Question
From previous testing I've done, Env. Resist. has only shown to have an effect on growth rate, independant of anything else.
Every 5 points in it raises growth by 1%. I tested this for Unpleasant and up, so if someone wants to double check this for worse conditions, be my guest.
Unfortunately, this appears to be a case where it'd make sense for it to affect how well your population handled poor conditions, people assumed that's what it did, and the misinformation spread...
FYI, I basically had several growth tables laid out with the percentage increase charted for variations in condition, Env. Resist. values, and reproduction values. In every case across the board, the 5% to 1% ratio held true. The border is between 0/1 and 5/6, so you can reduce your starting % to 96% with no ill effect. I'd suggest making it 81% and using the points in reproduction to compensate - it's cheaper until you hit the breakpoint for repro.

Re: General Question
Thank you, just goes to show , never assume . Just wish this game had some more explanation in some parts. Other than that this game will be an addiction till se5 comes out.
