Problem with SEIV running on Linux with Wine

Are you running as root? Wine won't run if you're root.

Did you remember to chown -R the entire SE4 directory to yourself? If you didn't, you won't be able to access the files from within the game.

The latest Version of wine will even let you run Starfury, I think! Who needs winex when wine will do the job?

How are you installing the RPM? Most of the GUIs have a tab listing all the directories its going to add files to.

Yes ... i try both as root and as normal user ...

I think is not a problem o file access since the game start well, I can do most of the things in the creation step ... it breaks when I try to scroll a menu or the races pictures ...

I have installed it with 'rpm -Uh wine..." so I think I have lost thie information ... now I try again with urpmi or form the GUI

OK ... here again!

I have installed Wine from source (first I have disinstalled the RPMS and deleted all the .wine directories) ... than installed Space Empries IV gold and everything is fine ... I can run it as user without any problem ...

but I'm not able to patch the game ... when I start the upadter, I find that I have a Space Empires installed on my PC but It told me that the Versione of Space Empires IV I have instaleld is not correct ...

some one could help me now ?

This probably has nothing to do with Linux/Wine. It's a fairly common problem that has to do with the time stamp on teh se4.exe file. You can reinstall from the CD and then patch, or try the fix we found in this thread.

How's the game functionality under Wine? About the only reason I still boot into windows anymore is to play SE4...
