How do you get around the inevitable destruction of your astroid and robo-mined planetary wealth? It seems like in a fairly short number of turns say 100 you'd have wore all your astroids out supporting your fleet?
Where are you storing the minerals you get each turn that aren't used for when your astroids start producing less and you have to find new places to mine?
I can sort of see how it would work for a short number of turns, 12 like you said is easy, but after a while I think your going to have some problems if you can't take a planet.
I know it would be very cool to have nomadic races with just spaceships and mining ships, research ships etc . . . but the game seems programmed specifically to make such races eventually die off.

Interesting that you have said that you do not get kicked out of the game when you lose your Last planet.
As a moderator of a multi-player I had to remove a player from the game as he did not want to play any more, so after abdoning all of his planets the empire was deemed dead by the game.
He still had ships left in space.
I wonder what the difference was from you and me for that happening!

I just tried it and Possum was right (even though I DID "check the facts"). But I swear it has happened (I lost) before, as I abbandoned all my planets even though I had ships left.
Maybe the maintanance was to high or something?
Ideas?

Testing this I noted that you must have planets that are with in view (via) warpoints to maintain contact with another race. I gave away all my planets to my opponent and lost contact with him even though I had a empty colony ship.
This empty colony ship was a powerful weapon though. I colonized a planet with it and then the next turn I was dead but I took away the planet as well without leaving any asteroids behind.
Looks like I will be submitting a bug report to MM on this one

i have taken out ai empires, and if they still have ships in space when all their planets are gone, the ships just hang out until someone cleans them up.

I just did a futher test. A empire can stay active even with just a mines left. Once I killed all the mines the empire finally died.
