Re: Check this out..
Q1. Was his review done using a two-month-old preview copy, or was he brought up-to-date often?
Just curious 'bought how much might have changed since then, that's all. Looks tasty.
Q2. The manual apparently will describe the text files. Darn spiffy for those of us tempted to try really, really strange settings. Will it go into any detail on possibly nonintuitive behind-the-scenes rules, like how intel ops and ground combat work?

Re: Check this out..
A very positive, accurate and extensive preview.
The only thing that I can not agree is about the interface... I have noted that the people who believe that SE4 have a very good interface, are people that never knew SE3 before... Damn!, in my humble opinion (and most of old SE3 players) the right click menu in SE3 was 1000 times better.

Re: Check this out..
Interesting review! Thanks for the heads-up!
I disagree with a few points (for one thing, I think somebody should tell him about the Upgrade Facilities button in the Construction Queue window. ) but it's great to see the game getting all this positive press and attention!! It surely deserves to be well-known and widely-celebrated!
Is it truely just 3 days until Gold? Excitment!

Re: Check this out..
Master Belisarius,
I agree. I miss the right-click menus too. But SE4 is still too fun to play to gripe to much.
I tried, I really did try, to get MM to add in the right-click menus. We had many fights in the Beta forum about it. Some people got the wrong idea that I wanted to get rid of the tool bar and Hot keys.

Re: Check this out..
Well... sometimes I could seem very negative, talking about SE4. But I'm not. In fact, I did a pre-order.
But the problem is that little things like the right click, and mostly, the SE4 queue system, make the things really less funny to me... and become more frustrating, when playing SE3 (yea, still I'm playing), I can remember that MM did a better GUI in the past, and can not see a good reason for the change.

Re: Check this out..
Hmm, two things . . .
First, I've been reading here for awhile and you don't strike me as negative. Rather, you seem like somebody who occasionally gets frustrated because you really like the game and want it to be that much better. Just an unsolicated opinion, of course, but I thought you might be interested in knowing how you're coming across . . .
The other thing is that changes to the interface are always possible with updates and the like. Once the full Version is released, if opinions come out firmly in favor of the older system (which has me curious now, BTW. I'll have to download a trial of SEIII and see what you're talking about) then I suspect they'll be more likely to consider doing all the work to expand the current options to include the old-style system. They're dealing with a time limit right now, trying to get it finished on time, and changes to thing that might be improved but are functioning OK for now tend to get a lower priority than the big crashes!
Keep on encouraging discussion about the things you want to change, though. That's a large part of how any developer knows where to target their efforts!
