Re: Next Patch?
I got the error when I set the max. system to 255, changed it down to 200 and it works fine, even in my current game with 255 systems.

Re: Next Patch?
I'm just a beta tester, not an employee of either company. Check the history file in your game whenever you put a patch in. The changes are in the history file.

Re: Next Patch?
Comar:
Yep, I knew you were a tester, so I just figured that maybe you could pass it along with your testing suggestions/comments.
The 'History' File indeed lists all the changes, but not WHERE they were changed. Some are obvious data tweaks, but things like 'AI was getting way to fast...fixed' could be anywhere, including in code that we dont have access to. So, my suggestion was just to provide a list of exactly which files had alterations so that a 'file compare' can be done on them to add the changes to existing data sets. Without that list, we are forced to do a compare on EVERY file that we have altered, regardless of whether a change was made there or not, just to be sure.
The reason I mentioned it here is that I figure that since MM is pretty much a one man show, that it might be easier to fit this request in through one of the already established testers.
Thanx,
Talenn

Re: Next Patch?
I support Talenn's suggestion 100%. It would spare the modding community a whole lot of headache each time a new patch is released.

Re: Next Patch?
Danny-That's an easy one. I posted the problem around the very first days of release. Anytime you go over 254 systems max you get weird results. I know it says 255 is the max but if you want to finish your game never go over 254, problem solved.

Re: Next Patch?
quote: MM did 17(!) patches on SE3 if I remember right, not because it was overly buggy but because people asked for them.
Adamus,
If that's the case, then Malfador has sure backed up their claims of listening to players, and then some! That lends an air of serene expectation to see what good things get done next, rather than desperately hoping that problems get fixed before the company loses interest, as was the unfortunate case with some other recent 4X games (Birth of the Federation springs to mind, as does Imperium Galactica II).

Re: Next Patch?
I started getting range check errors also. I had seen a comment in one of the forums that after a race was used too many times it could cause this. I got the error on starting the games about 45% into the player placement phase. I had my systems set at 200 I toned it down to 150 but I still got the error at every start up. So I deleted that saved race and all my saved games and so far it hasn't happened again. All my other saved races seem to work fine but even saving the "bad" race under another file name didn't correct the problem. I had played at least 6 or 7 games using that race before with no problems. And I hadn't saved it again since the first time I created it, just reused the same starting file because of the bug that causes all the planets to show as colonizable if you have ships from the saved empire that can colonize them even if you can't build the ships because you have innsuficient technology.
I wish that would change because I would like to see if a high experience point total does give you bonuses. Also and maybe this is one of the bonuses I have seen that sometimes I get a much higher population growth rate for similar planets in different games even with the same saved empire. I always take the 10% bonus to population growth and most games I get around 35%-37% growth with a jubilent population but sometimes I get as high as 45% even on unpleasant worlds.
