extreme random map available now
OK one of my toys has been put up at www.techno-mage.com/~dominion/
The new map is called BlindLuck so there is a BlindLuck.tga and a BlindLuck.map for you to download (right-click, save it to your dominions directory). This is an EXTREME random map. Just about everything that can be randomized, has been. No checks and balances so you can find yourself starting without your home province, or without your pretender. If that happens just start a new game with the same map.
There is also the BlindLuck.yab file there. You dont need that. Its the basic program that generates a new BlindLuck.map when I double-click it on my machine. Its written in YABasic (yet another basic) which is free and has Versions for most systems which is why I like it. If you want to load yabasic on your machine and use this, feel free. If someone wants to convert it into some other language, feel free. Its a plain text file so if you are just curious about such things and maybe arent even a programmer, feel free to read it to see if you can follow its twisty turny logic. Im willing to answer questions.
ALSO if there is interest I could add the BlindLuck.yab program to the daily morning routine on that site so that a completely new .map file is run fresh every morning for download to play using the same tga.

Re: extreme random map available now
My basic rant about free things. The problem with doing things for free is that nobody knows how to pay for them!
If a person charges for things then every purchase becomes a vote. Enough purchases and the person does another. We all understand that. But a free item?
Im sorry, the rant is done. *sigh* so if no one comments I take it for granted that the general opinion was that it was unplayable and irritating? Are any of the map ideas worth pursuing? Is a daily-created .MAP file for any of these a good idea?
(ok Im done whining now)

Actually I liked the idea of starting without your capital or god, for small SP bretzel sessions say - reminded me of these HOMM scenarii where you started with only a handful of troops and had to conquer a city within a week to survive. I'll give your BlindLuck map a look.

I can start you without your castle but then you can only build units that your special sites give you. That would be a very unfair start since some races get quite alot of their units that way.
But as for the god, its not just starting without it. I can only change the god, not kill it. That would be really interesting if it cold be done. But the way I had it everyones god would be a little militia guy with no magic. If he died and you prayed him back thats all you would get back. It would basically take gods out of the game and give you 2 prophets instead.
