Bad magic site?
Ok, I'm playing a game and I just got a magic site that says "Spreads deadly diseases" and "Increaes unrest by 5". I this something I want? Is there any way to get rid of it? Should I let someone else conquer it? Do the diseases spead according to proximity or thoughout the owners' empire (as in MY empire)? Is the unrest in my empire increased or just in this province?

Re: Bad magic site?
It just causes disease and unrest in the province. So don't put any troops there.

>is this something I want?
No. Avoid it.
>Is there any way to get rid of it?
No.
>Should I let someone else conquer it?
I don't like giving up any territory, but if you are making hard choices... yes, this is the province you care about least.
>Do the diseases spead according to proximity or thoughout the owners' empire (as in MY empire)?
It only hits troops that are in the province with the site. Doesn't spread. No effect on the empire, just the single province.
>Is the unrest in my empire increased or just in this province?
Just that province.

Re: Bad magic site?
It has those effects even before it is found. So, if you notice that a particular province has too much unrest, it is because of magic site. There are some very good ones, like the ones allowing any blood mage to summon a devil for free per turn, that raise unrest. Then there are those that disease etc... You can't always be sure of what you find. But you are much happier now that you know that it is there, and you are not dooming perfectly good armies with it.
Quess who find out what Inkpot End, (found from the first province he conquered with his first combat pretender in Dom1), does?

Re: Bad magic site?
I think I may have run across an undiscovered site similar to this one...at a choke point in the Aran map where I built a castle as Pythium.
Starvation doesn't affect commanders, right?
Because about half my best army is now diseased, including my top heroes other than my prophet.
Is there any other way this could have happened by turn 30 or so? I'm just about scared to even have my pretender eval this site other than with acashic record out of fear that he will be next!

Re: Bad magic site?
No you dont WANT it. But that doesnt mean it cant be used strategically.
Defense can be used to protect it without affect. If you do have to man it then man it with undead and summons.
Tax it to 200% for a quick burst of funds since you are unlikely to recruit troops there.
Use it as a choke-point. Dont take all the provinces around it if you can avoid it. Try to always move thru it without stopping there. Store armys 1 back from it, and boost defence in provinces 1 back from it. Even if an ememy camps next to it. Look weak. Let him take it then HOLD him there until he is forced to backup. Not a BIG tactic but worth adding to your list.
If raising the taxes and having huge unrest causes a bad-luck event to invade that province then DONT take it back. Force an enemy to take it and hold his big army trapped there. HAHAhahahahhaa!

In Dominions, if it looks like a killer strategy then look at it again carefully.
In Dominions, if it looks like a total waste then look at it again carefully.
