Re: no-ip.com
Dominions doesn't support the name variety, so it won't work. But I might just look into it for the next patch.

Re: no-ip.com
I second the request for DNS lookup of the server name. It should be fairly simple to implement... Pretty please?

Re: no-ip.com
Hmmm pros and cons. Its in my area and Im not sure if it would be easy or even a good idea. I can see the benefit for those who get assigned different IPs all the time and use services which always rename the IP the same each time. But I also see a lot of Users who tend to have the wrong idea of what their machine is named. "I told them my machine name but it doesnt work" but asking and finding out their IP number .... well anyway, I can see pros and cons.

Re: no-ip.com
Huh?
As it is now I had to write a script that displays my remote IP, install a webserver and what not. Just to make sure my players will always find the server again. This is just annoying both for people hosting and playing games. It's already hard enough to get a game going.
I doubt there will be a lot of support requests from people who can't figure out their hostname. I saw the confusion about local and remote IPs though... Most server based games support this "feature" and gamers are used to it. There will always be people who can't distinguish between local and remote IPs or don't know how to use a service like no-ip. But having both options doesn't seem to have a single drawback for me. I really can't understand your point, Gandalf.
Don't get me wrong I'm not asking for a Gamespy (like) interface (though it would be nice). Just a simple DNS lookup.

OK I will go ahead and pre-type a response on why wikd@pacbell.com is not your machine name. Its actually adsl-63-199-8-158.dsl.snfc21.pacbell.net And then tell them to forget all that and just use 63.199.8.158 instead
Im sure some will laugh but Ive done Customer Service for ISPs so all I can say is that represents a fairly knowledgeable user

Re: no-ip.com
But so what? If you're lucky and have a static IP you can still give it to your players.
And people playing Dominons aren't the Joe Average type per definition.
