Default Question about Multiplayer

Hey all. New to the game, still playing the demo waiting for the game to arrive.

Well I have a few questions about multiplayer that I have not been able to answer searching through the forums.

1. What type of army is usually found in multi player games. In general (as most new players) I cannot get past the big nasty looking units. That is what I am filling my armies with. However most multi player games tend to focus on numbers of cheaper weaker units, at least initially, then only include the "cool" units later in the game if it progresses that far. Does this sound right for this game?

2. Can you make an effective army of Heroes only?

3. How do you go about finding a multi player game? I read about a few IIRC sites to go to but I am not much for those. Is there a standard game forum or something where game times are established? Or is it feasible to find games in real time?

4. How long would you say the average multi player game Lasts?

5. Is there a random map generator?

6. Are there static start locations so eventually you know them all for a particular map?

1) Demons, mages, sacred units, and upkeep-free summons. But many different army compositions are viable.

2) No, not with humans, anyway.

3) Find MP games in this forum, or at www.dominionsx.com

4) Forever, unless you arrange fast turns ahead of time.

5) Kind of. Search to find the thread...

6) Some maps have fixed or spcified start locations.

1. What type of army is usually found in multi player games.
One of the neat things about this game is that with 17 people playing you will get 17 different ways of playing. Someone will play cheap swarms, someone else elite armys, another heavy on mages, another on summoned creatures, someone else might be all stealth. And thats not even counting all the different tactics and strategies for playing those armies.

2. Can you make an effective army of Heroes only?
Not really.
You might have fun playing it that way solo but in multiplay I think balance is something to keep in mind.

3. How do you go about finding a multi player game?
Here, newsGroups, or start one.

4. How long would you say the average multi player game Lasts?
Depends. Even solo play I can play a game for weeks. A multi can Last months. But dont let that put you off. It wont be boring. Its kindof fun to play a long game and be eager every day to see what the next turn will show you.

5. Is there a random map generator?
There was for Dom1. We are working on getting it to work for Dom2.

6. Are there static start locations so eventually you know them all for a particular map?
Some maps do but most dont. Most will reset starting locations, magic sites, what independents are in which provinces, and what gods are being used by computer players. So the only thing that remains the same is usually some few specially created provinces, and the actual map image.
