Simple. Dominions II is a niche-market game and has a much narrower marke-segment than for instance GTA3. Niche-products are almost always more expensive than similar mainstream products. This is both because the economics of scale are better for the mainstream products, and because the consumers in a niche-market are willing to pay more for something in the niche they're interested in.

Re: Why does this game cost so much?
US$50 is well below the average shelf-price of a new-release PC game here in Australia, and for the best thing I've played in years I consider it a real bargain

I wonder (a wee bit) how many hundred thousand copies of GTA III were sold before the price went down...

Re: Why does this game cost so much?
Let me think, I could pay $50 for many hours of interesting gameplay, or $30 to put two games that are the same as many games I've already got onto my shelf to collect dust, hmmm tricky !
You pay for what you get. $50 buys a lot of original design work & innovation. $30 for a pile of reworked graphics.

I'm assuming its Grand Theft Auto3, though I've never played nor seen any of its incarnations (other than maybe a few comercials on the telly). Anyway, comparing FPSs (or whatever sub genre they fit into these days) to TBS is much like comparing apples to something that isn't apples. The whole price arguement has been done to death several times before anyway, if you're really interested in it, maybe doing a little searching would be in order
