To rename a commander the option to do so must first be enabled when starting a new game. If it is, then you can just press R when you opened a units statistics window, ie looking at its description.

There is a "monthly ritual" command used to get a mage to cast the same spell every month - a summoning, for instance. Select the mage and press shift-m. There are no other repeat commands that I'm aware of.
