game difficult to play
Just started playing, and just came to this forum. Not sure if this topic covered or if it has ever been a topic, if a patch would help or if any patches are out. I am having difficulty because the game does not respond to orders. For instance when trying to scroll(I assume I have to use keyboard arrows) sometimes I have to hit the arrow key 5 or 6 times before a response, or I have to hold the key down a couple of seconds before any response. Same goes for mouse-cllicking on provinces, except not as bad. And the battles take for friggin' ever to complete. I have several games(Aow2, RoN, Civ3, MedTotW) with much greater graphics needs and I have nothing even close to these kinds of problems. I have done everything in the options menu I could find to lessen graphic detail and still no improvement. I appreciate any advice. Thank you.

Re: game difficult to play
That sounds extremely odd.
Extremely, extremely odd.
I do believe there are threads for technical problems, which this sounds like. Hearkening back to my tech support days, I would recommend posting your preferences at least, and also your hardware specs (and OS). That might help others here diagnose the problem.
One thought I have is to turn off the music completely, and see if that helps. Good luck!

Re: game difficult to play
I've seen that behaviour on a dual-boot win/linux machine of a friend once under linux. This was remedied killing the animated backgrounds which appeared to cause some issues on the outdated graphic drivers.... It was running fine under windows. Which surprised us to no end.
*shrug*
Your specs might help.

Re: game difficult to play
Sounds like there are other programs running in the background.
As far as map movement, if you have a middle button on your mouse or a while that lets you press-it like a middle button (thats what I have) then you can use the standard windows thing of homdling that button down and scrolling the map. I find that much better.
Also later in the game using PageUp/PageDown to zoom the map out abit to see more of it at once (maybe turning off the display of forts/temples/maps to see better) can help. For Quick full-view you can hit Insert or Delete, then zoom back into the level you want.

Re: game difficult to play
Some graphics cards and drivers play Dom2 very slowly, unless you crank down the detail settings. Updating or changing drivers may also help.
Note too that if you have a center mouse button (or mouse wheel that can be used as one, which many people don't realize), then you can use that to scroll the map, rather than the keyboard arrows.

Re: game difficult to play
I had the same problem with the Demo, which I thought was weird, considering I have a 1.7gh processor and a 24 meg video card. But when I thought about it a bit I said "AHHH, nVidia!" and downloaded the newest drivers. Voila! Fast, lovely godhood!

Re: game difficult to play
There ARE patches out - try patching to 2.08. But as mentioned, the problem is most likely driver-related, so determine your video card chip maker and download the latest drivers from their site, probably www.ati.com or www.nvidia.com.
