Adobe PhotoShop pointers for modding sprites
Anyone have any?
Aside from that, does anyone have any recommendations on where to go for excellent PhotoShop FAQs and pointers? There are so many sites out there that trying to find a single, clear, comprehensive one is hard. What I'm really interested in is finding out whether there's a utility on PS that allows you to pick a single color-type for sprites and replace all instances of said color-type with another color. You can see the obvious reasons for wanting such, I'm sure.
I've asked this elsewhere but then figured it should probably be its own thread, in case future modders come back looking for quick help.

Re: Adobe PhotoShop pointers for modding sprites
One possibility, although not an effective way, is Image -> Adjustment -> Replace Colour
Set Fuzziness to 0, select the pixel from the image with the pointer, then adjust the Hue, Saturation, and Lightness to get the colour needed.
The selection process is simple and quick, but getting the right Hue, Saturation, and Lightness value can be quiet annoying (you basically have to eyedrop the desire colour, check its value, write them down...), if you need to preform this operation numerous times...
There are probably more efficient ways, but I can't think of any atm.

Re: Adobe PhotoShop pointers for modding sprites
Why not convert to indexed color, swap the palette, then convert back? Or are Dom2's sprites already indexed colored?

Well, you're already at least a step or two of complexity further along than I am in terms of PhotoShop understanding. Gateway's advice got me started as it showed me the tabs and commands to work under and, once there, I was able to get things working. The only tedious part I see about doing things that way is that I'll have to catalog my colors carefully to make sure that I do the action sprite in the exact same fashion as the at-rest sprite.
I'm not sure I understand how to convert something to an index color and then palette swap. If you've got the time, a more step-by-step explanation would be awesome.
Thanks!

Re: Adobe PhotoShop pointers for modding sprites
To convert to/from indexed color, use the Image > Mode menu, IIRC; there should be options for indexed color, RGB, and a whole bunch of other stuff. Most likely the file's in RGB, though I'm not too familiar with the TGA format so I'm not sure. As for swapping the palette, I don't have Photoshop handy but there's probably an "edit palette" or some such command on the Image menu somewhere... is that at least a bit closer to what might help you?
