Upgrading Cargo?

The biggest problem that I have with the whole jettison cargo thing is that it is an all or nothing proposition. If I have 5 old weapons platforms of the same type, it is not possible to jettison just one. You have to flush the whole stack of them. If you could jettison just one of a stack, this would allow their replacements to be phased in over time. This is why the AI never seems to update their colony defenses. Their oldest colonies often have WP with really old tech.

I hate to waste obsolete WPs by jettisoning them, so I use a transport to collect them and transfer them to a world with lots of spare cargo space.

Can you trade units to the AI? If you could trade them for resources, it would be like selling your obsolete hardware to a Third World nation. I wonder where the units would get dumped? Probably at the nearest planets with enough space, assuming you can trade them at all.
