Consider whether you'll be making use of the Illithid Soldiers or Meteorite Guard. If not, you can probably tolerate a heavy Sloth scale, as regular Illithids will eat your treasury (and food...) far faster than resources. You may also want to consider extreme cold, since temperature scales impose no penalty underwater.



You may want to consider the "make your Void Lurker into a mobile Wight Mage" trick, but it would not be entirely unreasonable IMHO to consider it as going against the spirit of the rules, if not the letter; also, being undead has its own liabilities. You may also want to ask your group their opinion of the infamous astral clams.



Don't forget that Star Children aren't only assassins, but they're astral-1; enough for communion.



If you won't be able to build one yourself, consider bartering for a Staff of Storms, as it does not affect mindbLasts...
