It looks to me like what you are missing are the .trn and/or .2h files for the other races in the game. The fatherland file is fixed and contains the initial world data only. The current state information is stored in the .trn and .2h files.
You'll also need the copy of the .map and .tga files you were using.

The stuff in newlords isn't really important for savegames.

Ok, but surely in SP games there's only my .trn and .2h files, because the AI doesn't write them!Quote:

Maybe the map files are the problem - but surely a reinstall would have sorted that out. How does the program know which map is being used by each game - is that in the fathrlnd file? I should just check that all the map files are in the right places, and haven't been changed in 2.12. All three of my games use different maps, so I don't suppose all three have been changed.

Hmm you are right about that. AI players in multiplayer write .2h files but in actual single player games they don't.
So my suggestion is useless then.

Did you install dom2 into a different directory or drive the second time around?Maybe the map information is stored on the file and says:
The game map is in "A:\bcdefg\hijkl\mnop\dominions2\maps"
 Instead of the new "M:\nopqrst\uvwxyz\domII\maps"
 ?

 Its a possibility :\

AI players don't write 2h or trn files in multiplayer, either: The 2h file that's left over is actually the Last remnant of a deceased human player's orders.Quote:

It is indeed - good thinking Batman. I've had a look through the fathrlnd files with a hex editor, nothing that looks like a path to a map file in any of them.Quote:

Calling all devs - I'd really appreciate a pointer here - is Agrajag onto something? I have installed Dom2 onto a different drive this time around.

Is it perhaps something to do with the Windoze registry? Is each game entered into the registry when created?

I've created a new "cc1" game, and the only change to the Dom2 directory was the new cc1 game dir being created. I then replaced the files in cc1 with the files of my old cc1 game, and it won't load. So I suspect there must be something path-specific in the ftherlnd file, but I can't find it.

 Any help much appreciated,

 CC
