Default Foggy about Map Create/Edit Process…

Created .tga file in Gimp. Made new map (and saved successfully) in map edit. Understand all about corresponding *.map file and Unix editing.

But very confused about this part in the mapedit.pdf guide:

Load in your tga file and click in all borders and terrains

I understand about the little legend menu on the left and toggling the terrain types and neighbors and all… …but what I don't get is how the association is made between the province borders themselves. What is the magic that makes dominions2 recognize that there are 36 provinces in my homedrawn map and that if click in spot A it's province #6 and if I click in spot B it's province 11? I seem to end up with not having any provinces and don't understand how that piece works…

Default Re: Foggy about Map Create/Edit Process…

Province borders are not a consideration for Dominions2 as they were for Dominions - PPP, because the map editing system has been (fortunately) completely revamped.

Dom2 recognizes white (RGB 255, 255, 255) pixels as provinces. Every single one of them. If you've got two adjacent white pixels, they will be two different provinces, and if you accidentally get two pixels like that and don't notice, you'll get a big headache in the map editor (been there and done that...).

Any borders you draw on the map are completely ignored by the game, they are there only to let the players know where the borders supposedly run. The game operates on white pixels (which are presumably placed in the center of the province.

Province numbering order moves line by line from bottom right to upper left corner and the pixel location determines the province number.

Now, what that passage in the mapedit.pdf means is that you must assign terrain and neighboring provinces in the map editor before you start the advanced editing that needs to be done with a text editor. That "Click in all terrain and borders" should have been formulated as "Assign terrain and neighboring provinces".

Hope this helps.
