Re: OT: My UFO Encounter.. (True Story)
The trouble with UFO's is that there is only stories and blury pictures. The facts cannot be evaluated. You could say there is no hard evidence, but if there was, the government or another agency grabbing it is entirely beleivable. So, we are left with stories and crop circles. Never having seen any of the latter except in pictures, I can't comment. Sure, some of those could be pranks. And then, there is the stories of crop circles where the crops have been bent, not broken, as would happen if someone walked accross them. As I said, have not seen any except in pictures.

Crop circles were totally debunked many years ago. It was a couple of guys pulling pranks at night in rural england for kicks. I'll dig up some links later...

Well, guys pulling a prank is the simplest and also the most likely explaination for crop circles...

Yes there were. As a matter of fact, there were a few crop circles in a town about 30 km from where I live a few years ago. In some grain fields in the town of Vanderhoof, British Columbia, Canada, crop circles very similar in form to the British ones were discovered. You can't convince me that a few pranksters from Britain travelled 4000 miles to western Canada just to create a few crop circles. Then again, maybe someone else figured out how to make them, who really knows?

Copycats - all it takes is a board and some rope...and you're famous in a twisted anonymous way. Lots of people get off on that sort of thing. Heck, I know I did when I was a kid - used to mess all sorts of things up...
EDIT: here's a fun one to check out:

A lot of people make fake money. Its pretty close, fools a lot of people, then something really tiny is spotted which makes it a fake. That doesnt make me consider all money a fake, especially the ones without the little tell-tales of fakeness. It does make me think that any money I see MIGHT be a fake and hsould maybe be checked out.
Fanaticism is always bad. In this case I would have to say that both extreme belief and extreme disbelief is probably too early to be preaching it.

Re: OT: My UFO Encounter.. (True Story)
I should have noted it down but that old UFO mystery of Russia in 1908 (The suspected asteroid/meteroite/comet fragment/alien spaceship impact) was back up on New Scientist yesterday. Some person claiming they had found proof the object was of Extra Terrestial Origin. If i find the link i'll edit this post so you can all speculate and start debating

I find it hard to believe someone knew how to do that back in 1678
Nowadays, quite easily to be done seeing as how we think has vastly changed since then
Anyhow, heres something that I know many people dont discuss
These "UFOs" are always thought to be of another world, with the government saying its from our world
But wot if the government is right? But they are just not from our time (remember the fact that some UFOs have been sighted in famous times)
