They had rope and sticks back then. All you'd need was someone with a little bit of time on their hands to think up the idea. People are people and have always pulled pranks on each other. Of course back then people pulled pranks and the masses blamed it on evil spirits, or leprechauns. It must be UFO's, because we are all much too
rational to believe in evil spirits or leprechauns anymore.
