I think you guys should not reward/punish yourselfs with points for the rating system.

As it has done what we all hoped it would not do. And that is help determine the outcome of a game.
I wouldn't say that. I might say it had some affect but I partnered with Deccan and AtomSmasher early in the game (for the life of the game). So, proximity determined who I partnered with. Rex was on the other side of me. Regardless of Ratings or not...did I want to get in a fight with him? I don't think so. So, what I did would have been what I would have done in any game, regardless of it being rated or not. Then came the "Geo and Tesco" situation where I was being told by the "Tesco Alliance" to help clobber Geo or I'd be history (so to speak) and being contacted by Geo asking (not demanding) for assistance and pointing out that if his empire fell, I'd have the "Tesco Alliance all over top of me. So, once again, I made a decision based on the game situation, NOT who is rated, who was not, who had the most rating points (etc.). And the final part of the game, trying to finish off Tesco and turning my attention to the biggest un-allied player in the game, Joachim, has nothing to do with Ratings. If Joachim weren't a rated player, it would make no difference.

So, I humbly disagree with you.

I for one would like to see this as the only time this ever happens.
Not sure I understand. Could you explain a bit, please?
