Shouldn't make much of a difference. Personally I never jettison population. Waste of good workers.

I would up load a population of a planet that was rioting, and then Space them just for the hell of it. The planet would be left with a million people, and I would just park a few ships in orbit until the revolt ended. Am I a bad overlord?

Just move them to a planet that isn't rioting instead. Riots are tracked by planet, not population. Move them to a happy planet and they'll become happy.

Remove everyone from the planet except for that Last 1M. The Last 1M of population contains all of the foul miscreants that get the others all riled up. Abandon the planet but leave the facilities. Return the population to the planet. They should be much happier now that all the troublemakers are gone.

This actually works, too.

Actually, they need a new 'Resource Manipulation' facility that converts population into Organics. I find myself lacking Organics once in a while, and I start eyeing those 9600 population planets, knowing that they'll reproduce another few hundred next turn...

Although this may have already been discussed in that previous thread...I'm too lazy to look.

How about a mineral-miner component that convets the population of a planet (especially someone elses) into organics...
