I always have allied victory enabled, since it just seems stupid to me to have to attack your 150-year partner to win...

And I've played a race like that. In one game, I went max negative on almost every trait so I could get all of the racial traits. Since my race was inept at everything, I just traded ships for tech and colonies.
The most popular design was the E-110 model Cruiser, which had 5 Bio-crystal armor Is, one harmonic shield generator, and a pair of medium tech antiproton beams.
These ships are nearly impossible to kill - you need shard cannons or nullspace to even hurt them
Also, the design requires Organic, Crystalline, and Temporal tech together!

If I was playing with humans, then I could sell my ships for cash, and actually get my money's worth.
I would also offer to build tech facilities on planets for a price; how much would you pay for a temporal shipyard, temporal cloning vats, crystalline shield boost and maintenance reduction, Psychic training facilities, all the shrines, and a healing crystal facility all on the same planet?

If I had the points to spare for no maintenance, I could offer long-term ship storage, or a shipping/towing service.
You could pay me something like 25% of the cost of the ship, and I'll move it anywhere you want (no matter how long it takes, saving you money on maintenance.

With humans, your trade opportunities are endless.

Some organized suggestions for those of Ferengi descent.

No-maintenance race:
-Shipping service. For long trips, other players can save money by hiring you to fly their ships to various places.
-"Tow Truck" service. Damaged engines? Out of gas? Don't destroy that ship or spend big maintenance on it, get it towed home cheaply!
-Long-term storage. Need to save for a rainy day, and don't want to spend unmothball costs? Park the ship in a no-maintenance lot, and get it back on two turns notice!

Generic Racial/Unique Tech researched:
-Build custom starships for other races.
-Construct special facilities on planets.

Temporal Tech:
-Emergency building of ships for those who want it now. (works best for large ships/bulk buys, and in galaxies with WP highways for fast delivery)

Strategic Location:
-Charge for fast repairs of combat damage on site.
-Sell supplies for ships and fleets. A good price might be 1 mineral for 10 supply points.

Vast Resource Storage Capacity:
-Act as a bank, loaning resources, and opening savings accounts.

Big Racial Happiness Bonus:
-Put down riots (You could charge a lot for this, if the riots are spreading)

Any race:
-Sell units, which you can store for free until sold. (psst! You wanna buy 250 "Firestorm" tanks? ) Just swap cheapo cargo ships with your customer.
-Sell custom-built ships for those players who need ships quickly.
