Re: Mom 2 !?
I felt that "Age of Wonders:Shadow Magic" fell short of "Master of Magic". It was definetly the holder of the "closest yet" award but I think the multiplayer in it ruined the soloplay fun in MoM.
Im will be glad if Brad gets to do MoM2. He has already seen the discussions on the strategic newsGroups and has agreed that MoM2 needs to just be MoM+ with a better AI. For AI I think Brad is a good choice. If MoM3 comes out with a (long and painful) effort at making it multiplayer then that will be fine but MoM2 really needs to avoid that pitfall which ruined all the previous efforts to make one.

Re: Mom 2 !?
GalCiv was quite lame compared to SE4 in the field of complexity (judging from player's comments). Hard to belive that Stardock will be able to bring MoM II to its ancestor's level. Many tried, all failed. I call it "Simtex magic".

Re: Mom 2 !?
Well, there are several freeware projects on scourgeforge.net, i guess a few of them will be good, and maybe one or two really good
Just a matter of time.

Re: Mom 2 !?
Ive been keeping an eye on them but most of them are trying to add MP which is bogging them down. PLEASE someone just do a MoM+ very slight upgrade with no major changes.
And a PC Version of the Magic Realm board game
While we are on nostalgia there is a beta test call for old M.U.L.E. players on the new demo for HoRSE

Rather the contrary. Galciv is a top notch single player game, when SE4 is "not bad" on the single player side. From my point of view, I have not made a SP game of SE4 since I discovered PBW. So I believe that if someone can bing MOM2 on the level, it will be stardock.

Re: Mom 2 !?
I loved MoM!
In fact, I still play it at times. The ability to customise your character so extensively, and create your own magic artifacts were the two things that really made it stand out for me.
In fact, my floppies finally went bad from old age, but I found it at an abandonware site! Since I legitimately own the game, I felt not at all bad about D/L'ing it. Don't get me wrong, I'm certainly not condoning any sort of a casual attitude to software-licensing issues.
Anyway, MoM, like MOO, was the work of Steve and Grissel Barcia. My understanding is that they have moved on to console games (/me shudders in horror).
I guess my only point is, look what a fiasco MOO3 turned out to be. Unless the Barcias themselves wanted to take a whack at a MoM sequel, I wouldnt be too optimistic.

Also, altho many only know of GalCiv from the Windows Version it was out for years before that as an OS/2 game (for the multithreading. Many of the professional papers on the subject of AI, whenever games was brought up so was GalCiv. It drove me so nuts that I almost put up an OS/2 machine for that one and only reason. Brad is a well acknolwedged leader in the area of Game AI. Since he says MoM2 will be MoM with slight graphic improvments and improved AI then I would be hard pressed to recommend anyone else to the task.
Although, I often recommend to programmers that if you dont want to bang your head on it then at least open it to the Users. Allowing text-file scripting of AI is a great move on the part of Aaron. Probably saved him a year of headaches and having to listen to Users complain about the results no matter how well it would have been done.
