Re: OT: String Theory
I believe the 11-dimensional Version of string theory is the one that has garnered the most journal articles and general media attention. But I've heard Versions having anywhere from 7 to 23 dimensions (or, 6space+1time to 21space+2time, I think). All of it is pretty much theoretical, since any hypothesis can't be tested in a normal laboratory environment, only in particle accelerators (very small scale) and through astronomy (very large scale). The current everyday accepted model of physics of course has four dimensions (3+1), and the new theories incorporate those, along with "new" dimensions, to explain various properties. But, like I said... the math is way beyond me.
