Re: Vampires, anyone?
Classic server wonkiness. Server just needs another restart.
Basically you should be able to connect by trying repeatedly... i.e. start dom2, connect, close dom2 the moment its apparent the connection is hung, immediately try again, repeat until success.
Not ideal, but until the server is given a restart to fix the problem its the only way...

Re: Vampires, anyone?
You can also have success by just waiting for the "failed" dialog to pop up and hitting "Retry". That probably puts less strain on the server, which maybe helps the situation.

Re: Vampires, anyone?
Regarding ally summoning, its not a problem for most things. The summons are for for the most only good becuase they are free, not becuase they are particularly potent troops.
The Vampires are really only considered a problem becuase they are immortal... after all their stats are not great for the late game.
Immortality is the kicker: imagine, if you will, fighting and beating the mile-wide mass of 800 vampires at great expense, only to have them reappear the next turn at the guys capital... oh the headaches.
It can certainly be a problem if you are not equipped to deal with it, e.g. wrathful skies, firestorm, or other dramatic battlefield wide killing spell.

Bugger. I ran into you again Jot. I thought I was moving away.
I will stop moving in that direction completely until I hear where abouts you are.

Re: Vampires, anyone?
bleh another couple of giants toasted. Is it random who fights the indies? Seems to me I always first kill the indies to get kicked around by your queen.
Mind if I at least take the province? there is only one buffer province between it and my capital.
And what´s up with the scouts? watched c´tis attacking an indie province with a lone scout and they all ran away.
NO there was NO castle there.

Re: Vampires, anyone?
Yes, please take it. It has one Province Defence (to stave off.. bad events i guess). Then let us consider our border static? You might want to wait a turn before you take it or could you run into my queen who is leaving?
Maybe he had zapped the leader there so they just turned tail and ran???
