I tried what YellowCactus suggested, but I cannot connect at all.

Might be the server needs to be restarted. Illwinter thought they'd caught that one, but communications issues are a real bear to debug and work out.

Other than that, what happens when you fail to log in? Does it hang at the "waiting for game information" screen, or is it telling you that the server can't be contacted, or what? When it fails at the waiting for game information screen, a brute force solution often works: 3-6 tries to connect usually will get you in.

Server restarted. Should be working now. (At least when I connect, I get to the "select a nation" screen.)

Unfortunately, the errorlog doesn't say anything, so I'm not sure what caused the problem.

Okay, now log in as Ulm and give all his gems to Acroscephale. Ulm will find that amusing to no end!

Well, as of turn 49 I'm an AI. I have no chance against Marignons SCs and building army after army to be crushed by him was getting tedious. Good luck to everyone else!

I was able to log in again, so i hope everything is all good. Are you sure Tien Chi, I thought the battle was still pretty even, but I understand if it got frustrating. Now to move on the the other unbelievers.
